Country Diary of a Lady: 01/05/2014

It has changed even more.  We are expecting extremely cold temperatures tonight, the low being -43 with wind chill.  So glad to not have to drive anywhere or go anywhere but my little blue house once I'm done with work.

The weather has been bright and shiny, yet so cold that the snow has once again begun to squeak against your boots.  And in the dining hall you can see the air rush into the warm buildings, bringing with it momentary billows of cold white vapor.  I put many layers on this morning for my walking commute to the dining hall.  And I am pleased to report that I was not cold during my walk.  And while it may have been a bit extreme, it will be worth it tonight.

The sky will be bright and clear tonight, adding to the chilliness.  Last night the moon was a crescent but the light shadowed the remainder of the moon, so the shadow of the full circle was visible against the darker midnight sky.

Today the sun has been shining it thin winter light against the brightness of the white winter snow.  It looks warm but the beams do little to alleviate the chill of the breeze as it blows across the broomball court.  All of the schools, I believe, in Wisconsin and Minnesota have closed for Monday due to the cold.  I am hoping that this spell will be short and break soon.
