Country Diary of a Lady: 011/10/2014

The cold spell has broken.  And the weather has warmed considerably.  We broke 30 degrees (which is about a 80 degree difference including the windchill factor from Sunday night) and are sitting now at 24 degrees.

It is snowing again.  The white flakes falling silently through the dark sky.  Their whiteness highlighted underneath the lights along the paths.  Down at the skating rink, the snow has turned it's magical quality up to a higher notch as boys and girls glide around beneath the Christmas lights.  And next door to them, on the broomball courts the snow has heightened everyone's spirits.  Spurring them on to better and higher feats of daring and idiocy.

I myself am quite content, to be sitting with my feet up after a long day.  I am ready for sleep, with an Almond Milk steamer, flavored with Caramel and Vanilla, sitting at my elbow waiting to help me slip into a dreamless sleep.  And so, I shall sleep, and wake to a world that has been softened and gentled once again by the softness of a new fall of snow.

"A snowball in the face is surely the perfect beginning to a lasting friendship.” ― Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

"A winter ago I had an after-school seminar for high-school students and in one of the early sessions Una, a brilliant fifteen-year-old, a born writer who came to Harlem from Panama five years ago, and only then discovered the conflict between races, asked me, "Mrs. Franklin, do you really and truly believe in God with no doubts at all?" "Oh, Una, I really and truly believe in God with all kinds of doubts." But I base my life on this belief.”  ― Madeleine L'Engle

"Don’t ask what the world needs.  Ask what makes you come alive and go do it.  Because the world needs people who have come alive." ~Unknown

"I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night."  ~Galileo
