Country Diary of a Lady: 01/28/2014

This polar vortex has come to visit us again.  I’m ready for it to pass on, move away.  This has been the coldest January that I can remember.  Usually, back on the Farm, February seemed to be the coldest month of the year, but I change my mind now…

It’s been another lovely, restful couple of days off.  I read four books, have begun four new masks (got the base coats painted tonight), made a lovely rib-eye steak with mushrooms & onions and a baked sweet potato.  With it being so cold, I have not been outside often.  Only long enough to run into town yesterday to visit the library.

Last night I watched my favorite Hayao Miyazaki film, “Whisper of the Heart.”  A lovely story about a young writer and the boy who inspires her to pursue her dreams.
Today I watched “The Sleeping Beauty” A ballet in three acts with music by Pyotr Illyich Tchaikovsky, followed by Dante’s Peak with Pierce Brosnan, and then “R.E.D” which is hilarious by the way.  Had never seen it before.

Now I’m drinking Carmel Harmony tea with milk and honey while watching “Independence Day” and deciding what will be the next step in my mask adventure.  Because right at this moment, it looks as though I’m preparing to suit up a couple of superheroes.  (Not happening….no purple spandex suits for me today!)

I also read through all of my old “Tea Time” Magazines, looking for recipes that I want to try, and then scanned them into my computer so that I have them for the future.  Don’t want to lose any recipes for future tea party endeavors.  At the moment, I’m thinking I need to do another one around Easter.  Maybe after my 5K.  In celebration.  I’m also contemplating doing Minocqua’s “Fools Run at Midnight” on April 1st.  Though that would only be a 2K, a good warm up for the end of the month though.

I made the mistake of setting the masks down on my keyboard to dry.  Now I have a little bit of paint smudged on some of the keys.  Definitely lends an artistic temperament to my computer, who I have yet to name.  Well, the masks are almost finished, with the exception of a final coat of Modge Podge to make them shiny and protect the paint.  Then I shall send them off…. Soon-ish that is.
